Hand Drawn Records is extremely proud to again present Cancer Jam, and this time the bar is even higher, as the event is moving to AT&T Performing Arts Center's outdoor venue, Strauss Square, in the heart of Downtown Dallas and partnering with 102.1 KDGE.
The mission of Cancer Jam is to celebrate life by helping the afflicted individuals and families step away from the shadow of their situation for at least one night to feel the outpour of love through music. This year's recipient is long-time radio personality Mike "Mondo" Vasquez who was diagnosed with Follicular Dendritic Cell Sarcoma and who has already undergone surgery with extensive radiation and chemotherapy to follow.

CANCER JAM: PRESS RELEASE:
DALLAS, TEXAS - Sept. 13, 2015 – Cancer Jam announced today that its 3rd annual benefit concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Annette Strauss Square in the Dallas Arts District. Tickets will go on sale during the first week of October at www.cancerjamtx.org.
This year, the Cancer Jam family is coming together to help Michael “Mondo Mike” Vazquez, 49, a long-time member of the Dallas radio community who worked for KVIL, KRLD-AM, Q102/The Arrow, LIVE 105.3, and KDGE/102.1 ‘The Edge.’ Vazquez, who lives with wife, Amanda, and 5-year-old daughter Olivia in North Richland Hills, was diagnosed with Follicular Dendritic Cell Sarcoma in July. It is so rare that —according to his doctors— Michael is the only known person on the planet right now with this particular type of sarcoma.
Cancer Jam will be emceed by Atom Smasher and Shawnda of the Atom Smasher Morning Show on KDGE/102.1 ‘The Edge.’
"It's always important to help whenever you can. Cancer affects so many people, not just the ones with the diagnosis, but also their family and friends. We are proud to partner with Cancer Jam. It is a great way to raise awareness and funds for families when they need it the most." -Atom Smasher
After the success of Cancer Jam 2015, which raised over $30,000 for Linda Blocker, Cancer Jam founder Alex Hargis decided to go bigger and better. In addition to moving to a much larger venue with 2,000 seats, Hargis has also secured KDGE/102.1 ‘The Edge’ as a media partner. Dallas-based Hand Drawn Records will continue in its role as programming partner.
“Our goal is to raise $50,000 for Mondo,” explained Hargis. “With the larger venue, The Edge as our media partner, and Hand Drawn Records as our programming partner, I’m fairly certain we’ll reach that goal before the night of the show.”
Annette Strauss Square is part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center. It is located in the Elaine E. and Charles A. Sammons Park, to the west of the Winspear Opera House.
