PRESS
DFW.COM— “…a wonderfully disorienting sense of temporal dislocation…”
ON TOUR MONTHLY— “Filled to the brim with back-of-the-telegram vocals and dusty roadhouse piano, Bad Mountain’s self-titled debut EP is a wondrous piece of art.”
FORT WORTH WEEKLY—“In the baroque country stomper “Tell Me Mama,” frontman Jesse Anderson growls and wails like a meth-head in the moonlight. (That’s a compliment, by the way.)”
BIO
After spending several years as the guitarist in gritty-electric outifts The Sundowners and Roaming Soldiers, songwriter Jesse Anderson began culling his own project in late 2011 as front man for folk-roots act Bad Mountain. The band originated as a fresh new route for Anderson, who grew up on a stretch outside of Arlington, Texas, to express his back-roots leanings in a completely organic way.
Upon having his first child, Anderson had to change the way his songs were written. No longer were the loud amps and processors used to form songs; instead he relegated his work to an old dobro and an even older acoustic guitar, tracking on home studio devices.
As his new style took hold, Anderson extended the process to a proper studio in the summer of 2013, recording his debut self-titled EP at Modern Electric Sound Recorders with acclaimed producer Beau Bedford. During these sessions, Anderson incorporated seasoned musicians Daniel Creamer (keys-Dovetail) and Mike Tally and Nate Wedan (bass and drums-Somebody’s Darling). From those sessions, Bad Mountain the solo venture grew into Bad Mountain the band.
Today’s iteration of Bad Mountain comprises an eclectic foundation; imbuing roadhouse stomps and dusty-tinged vocals harken back to a lost-yet-not-forgotten era in American history. Anderson and company are as fresh as they are vintage, and the cross-section is something to behold.
